Born and bred in the Eastern Cape, Humansdorp, Elmo grew up spending many hours with his father in the families woodworking factory. His father was a builder and cabinetmaker who manufactured his own joinery for the houses he built in St Francis Bay. As a boy Elmo enjoyed working with his hands and learning from his dad, who had a love for furniture. He could work with the woodworking machines at a very young age and found it most enjoyable and satisfying. At the age of 26, in 1993, Elmo decided that he wanted to make a living manufacturing furniture. His father allowed him to use space in the factory which was vacant at the time. So with a few conventional machines, Elmo and four helpers, the humble beginning of Elmo’s Furniture was initiated. One of the four workers are still working for the company. At that stage the company produced doors, decorative mouldings and solid wood furniture. Making furniture was still in its growing stages and various types of woods were used. Buying these new modern European machines on a regular basis helps us to ensure success in our mission of continuous improvement. Highly specialized craftsmen at Elmo’s operate the sophisticated machinery. Operating such a machine is an art; Elmo’s therefore disproves the myth that mechanised manufacturing is not a craft. A six axis CNC router machine allows wood to take on complex shapes and produce beautiful furniture. Over the years we have supplied: selective retailers, restaurants, coffee shops, B&B’s, hotels and decorators with our furniture. It is our vision to grow our market share and build relationships with the same passion we have for wood furniture! We will manufacture your chair design from a sample or CAD drawing (preferred) exclusively for you. Standard styles are styles but various sizes and configurations can be custom manufactured. The construction of a chair is very important so therefore we spend time & money to ensure the excellence of our furniture. Money used to purchase the latest technology machinery from Europe and time for the development and testing of each chair to ensure the integrity of the chair. Tenon joints, grooved corner blocks and specialized glue are used ensuring the integrity of our chairs. They are good quality, pracitical and manufactured from solid wood. The construction of a chair is very important so we spend both time & money to ensure the structural quality of our chairs. We invest in the latest technology machinery from Europe and time is spent developing and testing the structure of the chair. Tenon joints, grooved corner blocks and specialized glue are used and ensure the integrity of the chair.
